Last year I began covering the openings of some beautiful exhibitions at the James Michener Art Museum in Doylestown. It became one of the highlights of 2025. Meeting artists in other fields and hearing them describe their work and the inspiration behind what they create and why they create it helps any artist put their own work in perspective and continue questioning the meaning and importance behind what do. My favorite piece at Eric Carle’s show was accompanied by the beautiful explanation that he included a sun or a moon in many of his books as a gesture of gratitude and acknowledgement for all that the celestial beings offer: light, warmth, and a calming presence in the night sky. In reading that sentiment and seeing his vibrant and whimsical body or work on display, I felt I could feel the spirit that embodied the work and it made me love it even more. This exhibit is made for children. Take them all, especially the little ones.
